J. T. Bogue established one of the first plant nurseries in Marysville. In the 1880s, he became the first nursery owner to commercially propagate the Phillips Canning Cling Peach, which had recently been developed by A. F. Abbott and Joseph Phillips of Sutter County. Bogue, Bogue Road, and Bogue Park are named for him.
