Sierra Nevada Mountain Range

The Sierra Nevada Mountain Range is 400 miles long, extending from [wikipedia]Fredonyer_Pass in the north to [wikipedia]Tehachapi Pass in the south. Its highest point is [wikipedia]Mount Whitney, which is 14,505 feet high and located partially within [wikipedia]Sequoia National Park in Inyo County.

The northeastern portion of Yuba County extends partway up the west slope of the Sierra Nevadas. The highest point in Yuba County is Sugar Pine Peak, which has an elevation of 4,825 feet; it is located northeast of Strawberry Valley and southwest of La Porte. At the foot of the Sierra Nevadas in Yuba County are the Oat Hills, which are located north of the Yuba River (opposite Smartsville), south of Oregon House, east of Browns Valley, and southeast of Loma Rica. All areas of Yuba County above approximately 1600 feet - including Brownsville, Camptonville, Challenge, Dobbins, La Porte, and Strawberry Valley - belong to the Yellow Pine Forest plant community.
